March to the Memorial is a 21-mile memorial walk in memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. If you can join us for the entire route, we will be walking 21 miles from southern South Bend off Ireland Rd to the 9/11 memorial at St. Patrick's County Park. Otherwise, please grab your American flag (any size) and join us for a distance suitable to your schedule and ability. The walk begins at 9:11 am on Friday, September 11th. We will make several rest stops, including fire houses, gas stations, a library, downtown, and 1 stop at Coldwell Banker's Ironwood office for 10-20 min each. The 21 mile distance represents our walking 21 gun salute. Due to Covid, our rest stops at fire stations is only a 5 minute pause in 2020.
This memorial walk was started because of the St. Louis "March to the Arch", which now has over 600 participants! In Des Moines, March to the Capitol was started a in 2015, and has now grown to over 50 participants.
To catch the vision for the future of the March to the Memorial, please see pictures from the St. Louis and Des Moines' walks, under the "walk history" tab.
Here is a video summary of the major launch year, 2019!
There is no cost to participate in this walk. The starting point will be at the Menards parking lot on the south side of Ireland Rd and High St. We will finish at the 9/11 memorial in St. Patrick's County Park in north South Bend.
